General Motors Co. and Switch Inc. agreed to match 100% of power use at their operations in Michigan with electricity from Consumers Energy Co.-owned Cross Winds Energy Park II in Tuscola County, Mich.
The 44-MW wind farm, which went online in early January, is providing electricity to Switch's Pyramid data center campus and General Motors' Flint Metal Center and Flint Engine operations in the state, as part of the CMS Energy Corp. subsidiary's renewable program for large businesses, according to a March 8 release.
"The Consumers Energy program will help General Motors meet its commitment to source [100%] renewable energy at all global operations by 2050, while reducing emissions in our Michigan communities and making the grid greener," said Dane Parker, General Motors vice president of sustainable workplaces.
Consumers Energy recently unveiled plans to reduce carbon emissions by 80%, phase out of coal power generation by 2040, and to source 40% of its energy from renewables and energy storage instead.
