Electro-Sensors swings to loss in Q1

Electro-Sensors Inc. said its first-quarter normalized net income came to a loss of $84,380, compared with income of $20,630 in the prior-year period.

Normalized net income excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis.

The normalized profit margin fell to negative 4.9% from 1.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue decreased 9.0% year over year to $1.7 million from $1.9 million, and total operating expenses totaled $1.9 million, compared with $1.9 million in the prior-year period.

Reported net income came to a loss of $101,870, or a loss of 3 cents per share, compared to income of $547,950, or 15 cents per share, in the prior-year period.
