The Malaysian Competition Commission is ramping up its investigation into GrabTaxi Holdings Pte Ltd. over possible monopoly practices, Bloomberg News reported Sept. 24.
The investigation was triggered by complaints to the watchdog following the ride-hailing company's acquisition in 2018 of the Southeast Asian operations of rival Uber Technologies Inc.
The watchdog's CEO, Iskandar Ismail, on Sept. 19 made the announcement but declined to specify steps the commission was taking, the news agency said.
A Grab representative did not respond to Bloomberg's emailed request for comment. Grab did not immediately respond to S&P Global Market Intelligence's request for comment.
