Sky strikes pan-European deal with Netflix

British pay TV giant Sky plc has struck a deal to bundle Netflix Inc. into a new subscription package that will be available on the Sky Q home entertainment service.

The Netflix app will be added to Sky Q as part of the new package, enabling customers to access Netflix content alongside Sky content. Netflix will be initially available to Sky Q users in the U.K. and Ireland before eventually rolling out to subscribers in Austria, Germany and Italy.

Pricing and billing details will be revealed as the streaming giant's launch on Sky Q inches closer.

Meanwhile, Sky will also launch a stand-alone Netflix app on NOW TV streaming devices, including the recently launched NOW TV Smart Stick, in Britain and Ireland. A similar stand-alone app for Netflix will be launched shortly on the Sky Ticket platform in Austria and Germany and on NOW TV in Italy.

The new partnership came after Sky unveiled details of new features for its Sky Q service, including the addition of Spotify AB's streaming service on the platform for its U.K. and Ireland users.
