Piedmont Office Realty Trust CEO to retire; replacement named

Piedmont Office Realty Trust Inc. CEO Donald Miller will retire, effective June 30, and will be succeeded by current President and Chief Investment Officer C. Brent Smith.

The office real estate investment trust said Smith will join its board, with immediate effect, and Miller will stand for board re-election for the 2019-20 term. Smith will remain president and chief investment officer through the end of 2019.

As a result of Smith's recent appointment to president, the REIT has combined its mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The merged regions, now known as the Northeast region, will be led by Piedmont Executive Vice President and former mid-Atlantic Region Head Robert Wiberg.

Additionally, Piedmont said it amended its bylaws to change the voting standard in uncontested director elections to a majority vote from a plurality vote with a director resignation policy. The plurality voting standard will remain in place for contested director elections.
