US to investigate 500,000 Tesla vehicles after 'unintended acceleration' reports

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, or NHTSA, will review a petition seeking an investigation into 500,000 Tesla Inc. vehicles over an alleged problem that may cause sudden unintended acceleration.

The road safety board received the petition Dec. 19, 2019, citing 127 consumer complaints to the NHTSA involving 123 unique vehicles. The reports include 110 crashes and 52 injuries.

The petition covers Tesla Model S vehicles made between 2012 and 2019, Model X made between 2016 and 2019, and Model 3 made in 2018 and 2019.

Recently, NHTSA reportedly said it will investigate fatal crashes in Los Angeles and Indiana involving Tesla vehicles.
