Japanese tertiary activity picks up in October

The seasonally adjusted tertiary industry activity index for Japan gained 0.3% on a monthly basis to 104.9 in October after shedding 0.2% in the month before, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry data showed.

The monthly gain reflected a 1.0% rise in broad-ranging business services, partially offset by a 0.6% drop in personal services.

Among constituent industries, the information and communications industry contributed most to the monthly growth in the index while living and amusement-related services weighed down the most on the figure.

In annual terms, the unadjusted tertiary industry activity index was up 1.1% to 103.8.
