TransCanada to pursue C$1.5B expansion of NOVA Gas Transmission system

TransCanada Corp. has decided to move forward with a C$1.5 billion expansion of its NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. system, which is part of the company's systemwide capacity expansion programs worth more than C$9 billion in investments.

The system expansion is supported by new firm service commitments amounting to about 1.1 Bcf/d, with terms ranging from eight to 20 years. Commercial agreements for 754 MMcf/d of incremental firm services, due to commence in April 2022, have been executed by shippers for deliveries to various Alberta markets. Another 377 MMcf/d of firm receipt services beginning November 2021 would bring Montney and Deep Basin gas supplies to the system.

The project involves the construction of about 122 miles of large-diameter pipeline, three compression units, meter stations and other facilities. NOVA Gas Transmission plans to file applications for construction and operation permits with the National Energy Board in the second quarter of 2019. If approvals are received, construction would begin in the third quarter of 2020.
