Home furnishing retailer Williams-Sonoma Inc. is expected to launch a 3D imaging app this month, The Wall Street Journal reported Sept. 4.
The app can generate visual representations of the company's product range, the report said.
In November last year, the company acquired California-based technology firm Outward Inc. for $112 million in cash. Outward is a 3D imaging and augmented reality platform for the home furnishing industry.
According to the Journal, the app enables customers to visually determine how a piece of furniture will fit in a specific room.
During its Aug. 22 earnings call, Williams-Sonoma CEO Laura Alber said that the company is working on platforms that will enable customers "to build their own floorplans, browse our product assortments cross-brand, and drag and drop photo-realistic pieces to furnish their homes with more confidence and accuracy."
