Lake Resources NL entered into a partnership with Lilac Solutions Inc. to use the latter's proprietary ion-exchange technology with the goal of establishing a rapid, low-cost process for producing lithium at its Kachi brine project in Argentina.
The company said the process aims to significantly increase recoveries to above 95% in less than two hours rather than spending nine months to two years of evaporation in conventional methods.
Lake Resources said the new process seems more environmentally sustainable than traditional methods and is easily scalable to increase production, according to a Sept. 5 release.
Lake Resources Managing Director Steve Promnitz said, "We have reviewed a number of technologies, and we consider Lilac to offer a compelling opportunity to be reviewed in tandem with conventional methods as part of a pre-feasibility study that we will commence soon after the release of our initial resource."
The company expects an initial resource at Kachi to be released within the next eight weeks, followed by a pre-feasibility study and strategic investment decisions.
