President Chain Store Corp.'s 7-Eleven Taiwan opened its first unmanned outlet called X-Store, Taiwan News reported Jan. 30.
The store is located at President Chain Store's corporate headquarters in Taiwan, where it is operating on an internal trial basis and open only to company employees.
The 7-Eleven X-Store reportedly uses facial recognition to allow entry, initiate checkout and make payments. It also incorporates technologies such as hot spot analysis, smart voice interactivity, electronic labels, and robot greeters and sweepers.
This is the second unmanned store launched under the 7-Eleven brand, which is owned by Japan's Seven & i Holdings Co. Ltd., according to the report. The first such store was opened in Seoul in May 2017.
