Report: Deutsche chairman discussed Commerzbank deal with investors, German govt

Deutsche Bank AG's chairman has talked to the bank's biggest shareholders about a potential merger with fellow German lender Commerzbank AG, Bloomberg News reported, citing unnamed sources.

Paul Achleitner also discussed the potential merger with members of the German government, though there has been no formal communication between Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank regarding a potential transaction, according to Bloomberg's sources.

A Deutsche Bank representative declined Bloomberg's request for comment.

Germany's government is the biggest shareholder in Commerzbank, with an ownership stake of more than 15%.
