NextEra brings online 5 community solar projects in Minnesota

NextEra Energy Resources LLC announced Feb. 15 that is has brought online five "community solar gardens" in southeastern Minnesota.

The solar facilities are as far north as Benton County, Minn., and as far south as Dakota County, Minn., and are part of a community solar portfolio totaling 66 MW, including projects under construction, according to a Feb. 15 release.

"For NextEra Energy Resources, these projects represent an initial portion of the solar gardens we plan to bring online this year," NextEra Energy Resources Vice President of Development Matt Handel said.

Xcel Energy Inc. customers will be able to purchase subscriptions to a community solar project and can pay the NextEra Energy Inc. subsidiary for their fixed share of solar energy generation while receiving power from Xcel Energy and paying their utility bill as usual. Subscribers may also receive credits on their bills for the power produced.

Current customers include Tennant Co., The Home Depot, University of Minnesota and other commercial and government entities.
