Japan housing starts rise in April

Housing starts in Japan climbed in April, rising by 0.3% year over year to 84,226, following an 8.3% annual fall in March, data from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism showed on May 31.

This marks the first time that housing starts have risen in ten months.

Construction of privately owned houses declined 1.9% in April after falling 4.2% year over year in March.

Built-for-sale house starts advanced 5% in April following a 3.6% fall in March.

Annualized housing starts in April climbed to 992,000 from 895,000 reported in the prior month.
