Comscore to cut about 8% of workforce; Activision Blizzard names marketing chief

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a rundown of executive changes in the U.S. technology, media and telecommunications industries.

* Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder and head of the applied division at Google LLC's artificial intelligence unit Deepmind Technologies Ltd., has been placed on leave, Bloomberg News reported Aug. 21, citing a company spokeswoman. While DeepMind did not disclose the reason for the action, Bloomberg claims the move stems from controversy over some of DeepMind's work in the health sector. DeepMind reportedly faced heavy criticism over its mobile app Streams. DeepMind had partnered with London's Royal Free Hospital to help doctors identify patients at risk of developing acute kidney injury. In July 2017, the U.K.'s data regulator said Royal Free Hospital illegally gave DeepMind access to 1.6 million patient records, according to the report. Suleyman apologized in a statement at the time. Google is a unit of Alphabet Inc.

* Comscore Inc. will cut about 8% of the company's workforce. The job cuts come as the company is reorganizing its technology, product and sales organizations to optimize its focus on core areas of growth. The majority of the employees impacted by the reduction in force will exit Comscore in the third quarter.

* Nickelodeon (US) hired Angelique Yen and Eddie Gamarra to oversee the Viacom Inc. unit's studio model business. Yen will become senior vice president of physical production at Nickelodeon Movies, while Gamarra will be Nickelodeon's vice president of studio business development.

* Sylwin Grinman joined Cuentas Inc. as COO. Previously, Grinman was international general manager at Hoffman Laroche Biomedical in Switzerland. Cuentas is a financial technology service provider with proprietary technology to provide services for the underbanked and unbankable Hispanic and Latino population.

* Networking and remote access technology company Citrix Systems Inc. appointed Arlen Shenkman executive vice president and CFO, effective Sept. 9. Shenkman will replace Jessica Soisson, who has been the company's interim CFO since April and will continue as chief accounting officer and corporate controller. Prior to joining Citrix, Shenkman was executive vice president and global head of business development and ecosystems at SAP SE.

* Creative Artists Agency LLC veteran David Messinger joined Activision Blizzard Inc. as the company's corporatewide chief marketing officer, Variety reported Aug. 15. Messinger will report to Coddy Johnson, the company's president and COO.
