Kosmos Energy, partners discover more gas offshore Senegal for LNG development

Kosmos Energy Ltd. said the Yakaar-Teranga resource in Senegal's Cayar Offshore Profond block could provide gas supply for another LNG project delivering to domestic and export markets after an appraisal well delivered positive results.

The Yakaar-2 appraisal well encountered about 30 meters of net gas pay. The Valaris DS-12 rig drilled the well in about 2,500 meters of water to a total depth of about 4,800 meters.

The first phase of the Yakaar-Teranga development will supply gas to the local market and gather data to develop future phases, according to a Sept. 23 news release from Kosmos Energy.

The project follows the development of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project, expected to yield first gas in the first half of 2022 and provide feed gas to a floating LNG facility at a hub on the Mauritania and Senegal maritime border.

BP PLC serves as project operator of Cayar Offshore Profond block with a 60% stake, while Kosmos Energy holds a 30% interest. Societe Des Petroles Du Senegal owns a 10% stake.
