Volkswagen India gets approval to merge local passenger car units

Volkswagen AG's India unit said Oct. 7 that local authorities approved the merger of its three passenger car units.

The German carmaker will combine Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd., Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. and Škoda Auto India Pvt. Ltd. into one company called Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.

After the merger, the combined company will be led by Gurpratap Boparai and headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra.

Škoda Auto Volkswagen India will operate production facilities in Pune and Aurangabad and other regional offices.

The merger is part of Volkswagen's India 2.0 project, which received investments worth about €1 billion in 2018.
