Short bettors exit First Solar, while Covanta sees rise

First Solar Inc. posted the largest decrease in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered power and gas companies between April 28 and May 15.

The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding declined 411 basis points to 14.92% as of May 15.

Covanta Holding Corp. saw the greatest jump in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered power and gas companies between April 28 and May 15. The company saw short interest rise 173 basis points to 11.40% of shares outstanding at the end of the period.

Spark Energy Inc. topped the list of most shorted power and gas companies in the first half of May. The company saw short interest drop 280 basis points to 38.21% of shares outstanding.

Arch Coal Inc. was the most shorted coal company between April 28 and May 15. The company saw short interest decline 2 basis point to 16.22% of shares outstanding.
