Premium rates for 2020 will increase by an average of 6% for individual and 4% for small group health insurance plans in Idaho.
The Idaho Department of Insurance said the increase in the individual market is significantly smaller than the double-digit increases in previous years, while the increase in the small group market is consistent with increases in previous years.
Director Dean Cameron said that while the increase is smaller, the plans are still expensive for individuals, especially without subsidies. The department is pushing for more affordable products and more choices for consumers, which it hopes to provide through open enrollment for the state's insurance exchange Your Health Idaho.
Open enrollment for 2020 begins Nov. 1, with options to choose from six carriers offering a total of 116 medical plans and 13 dental plans for 2020. Consumers may also be eligible for assistance for premiums, out-of-pocket costs and deductibles through the insurance exchange.
