Piedmont increases namesake lithium project's footprint 20.7%

Piedmont Lithium Ltd. said Feb. 1 that it increased its namesake Piedmont lithium project in North Carolina by 20.7% to 1,092 acres through the acquisition of 188 acres from local landowners.

The acquisition, which follows two prior land expansions, will create a 245-acre contiguous land package adjoining a 57-acre parcel already under option by the company near the past-producing Hallman-Beam lithium mine and within 4 miles of the company's ongoing phase-three drilling, which is aiming to define a maiden resource.

Piedmont said it was on track in consolidating land in the region in support of developing an integrated lithium project.

In January, the company announced plans to undertake a scoping study at the project, which is expected to be completed early in the third quarter.
