Teck Resources Ltd. said Aug. 27 that an electrical equipment failure at its Trail zinc refinery in British Columbia affected one of four rectifiers, resulting in a 25% reduction in production capacity for an estimated output loss of 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes while repairs are ongoing.
Repairs are expected to take up to 20 weeks and to cost an estimated C$5 million to C$10 million. Refined zinc metal production at Trail will be limited to three of the four cell houses during the repair work.
No injuries or environmental impacts were reported in relation to the equipment failure.
