Porsche Automobil Holding SE partnered with U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing Co. to develop electric flying cars, according to an Oct. 10 release.
Boeing, Porsche and Boeing's subsidiary Aurora Flight Sciences are working on a concept for a pure electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle. Engineers from both companies, as well as Porsche subsidiaries Porsche Engineering Services GmbH and Studio F.A. Porsche, will implement and test a prototype.
"Porsche is looking to enhance its scope as a sports car manufacturer by becoming a leading brand for premium mobility. In the longer term, this could mean moving into the third dimension of travel," Porsche's sales and marketing executive board member Detlev von Platen said in a statement.
The German automaker also said it will establish an international team with Boeing to resolve various aspects of urban air mobility, including studying the market potential for premium vehicles and possible use cases.
