GAC Mitsubishi Motors, a joint venture company formed by automakers Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd., said Feb. 28 that it will start selling Eupheme, a plug-in hybrid electric SUV, in China beginning March.
The car has an average fuel economy of 1.8 liters per 100 kilometers and a cruising range of more than 600 kilometers. It will initially be launched in five cities — Changsha, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Tianjin — before being rolled out across the country within 2018.
Mitsubishi said the move will help expand its position in China, which emerged as its largest global sales market in 2017. Sales in the country rose 63% year over year due to demand for the localized plug-in hybrid vehicle Outlander, Mitsubishi said when it reported third-quarter results Feb. 5.
