FirstEnergy's Pa. utilities seeking power supply for default service customers

CRA International Inc. will conduct two auction processes to procure full requirements default supply generation service for customers of FirstEnergy Corp.'s Pennsylvania utilities.

The auctions are being conducted pursuant to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission-approved default service programs DSP-IV and DSP-V for FirstEnergy. The bidding processes will use a descending-price clock auction format.

For the DSP-IV auction, Metropolitan Edison Co., Pennsylvania Electric Co., Pennsylvania Power Co. and West Penn Power Co. are seeking to procure a three-month contract for commercial class customers during the December 2018 through February 2019 delivery period.

For the DSP-V auction, the utilities wish to procure a 12-month residential class product for the June 2019 through May 2020 delivery period; a 24-month residential class product for the June 2019 through May 2021 delivery period; a 12-month commercial class during the June 2019 through May 2020 delivery period; and 24-month commercial class during the June 2019 through May 2021 delivery period.

An information session for prospective bidders is scheduled for Sept. 12. Part 1 applications will be accepted beginning Sept. 13 and are due no later than Sept. 27. Successful part 1 bidders will be required to submit part 2 applications from Oct. 4 through Oct. 16.
