The Tuesday Express: CFPB denies stopping probe on Equifax; 2 Maine CUs merging

* A spokesperson for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau refuted reports that the agency has drawn back its investigation on Equifax's cybersecurity breach.

* The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs will hold a hearing entitled "Virtual Currencies: The Oversight Role of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission" at 10 a.m. ET.

* Also at 10 a.m. ET, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will face the House Financial Services Committee in a hearing entitled "The Annual Report of the Financial Stability Oversight Council."

* The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City granted Fourth Corner Credit Union conditional approval to serve marijuana-related businesses, according to The Wall Street Journal.

* In Maine, York County Federal Credit Union and Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union are merging.

* Two California credit unions — Allied CU and UNCLE CU — are also merging.

* Canada's Fairfax Financial and U.S.-based Warburg Pincus and General Atlantic are among the companies looking to acquire a 26% stake in IndiaFirst Life Insurance, sources for Mint say.

* And growth in direct premiums in the accident-and-health business written by U.S. property-and-casualty insurers is expected to reach 4.7% in 2018, up from the previous estimate of 4.2%, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence's newly revised U.S. P&C industry projections.
