Southern Power brings online 20-MW Calif. solar facility

Southern Power Co. has placed into service its 20-MW Gaskell West 1 solar facility in Kern County, Calif.

The Southern Co. subsidiary acquired the solar project from Canadian Solar Inc. subsidiary Recurrent Energy LLC in January, according to a March 28 news release. First Solar Energy Services will operate and maintain the facility.

Gaskell West 1 holds a 20-year power purchase agreement with Edison International subsidiary Southern California Edison Co. SoCalEd has the option to keep or sell the associated renewable energy credits from the facility.
