HSBC adds 11 senior bankers to infrastructure, real estate group

HSBC Holdings PLC announced the appointment of 11 senior bankers to the infrastructure and real estate group, or IRG, in its global banking division.

The bank hired six people externally and made some internal appointments to the IRG.

HSBC named Christian Hepp and Kara Wang global co-heads of real estate. Hepp joins from Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., where he was head of mergers and acquisitions for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Hepp will be based in London. Meanwhile, Wang was promoted to the role internally. She previously served as a managing director in the real estate team. She will be based in Hong Kong.

Internally, the lender also moved Olivier Gibert from the head of transport services and infrastructure for Asia-Pacific to global head of infrastructure; Chris Hignell, previously in advisory, was named head of infrastructure and transport, services and logistics for Asia-Pacific; and Robert Todd, who was head of renewables and cleantech, was appointed global head of power, utilities and renewables. Gibert and Todd will be based in London, while Hignell will be based in Japan.

Helen Li was named co-head of IRG for Asia-Pacific. She will be based in Hong Kong and will work alongside co-head James Cameron. Li was most recently head of power, utilities and infrastructure for Asia at Bank of America Merrill Lynch International Ltd.

HSBC appointed Nicola Free a managing director in the IRG financing team. She will be based in London and joins from American International Group Inc. where she was co-head of international origination in the commercial mortgage team.

Further, the bank hired Nikolay Iankov and Sean Harvey as directors in the IRG and real estate financing teams, respectively. Iankov and Harvey join the bank from Bank of America Merrill Lynch and National Australia Bank Ltd. It also appointed Alex Thomas, an M&A banker, as a director in IRG. Iankov and Thomas will be based in London, while Harvey will work out of Sydney.

Meanwhile, Giulio Hoffman was recently hired as managing director in the power, utilities and renewables team. He is based in London and joined from Macquarie Group Ltd.
