Members of the European Parliament voted to approve the mandate for talks with the European Union governments regarding rules for online television and radio.
According to a Dec. 12 news release, the new rules will aim to simplify the process of clearing copyright to make it easier for broadcasters to make their news and current affairs programs available online also in other EU countries.
Broadcasters currently have to clear copyright in a very short time for every country where they offer news and current affairs programs online.
With the new rules, they would only need to clear the rights in their own country. Copyright clearance would also be simplified for operators who offer subscription packages.
