Report: China to seek WTO support for sanctions on US over dumping duties

China will seek authorization from World Trade Organization to impose sanctions on the U.S. over Washington's alleged noncompliance with a ruling related to antidumping methodologies, Reuters reported.

The request is expected to be submitted to WTO's dispute settlement body on Sept. 21, according to a meeting agenda reviewed by Reuters.

In 2013, China complained about the way the U.S. calculated the amount of antidumping duties on foreign producers. China won the case in 2016, which was confirmed on appeal last year.

The U.S. had until Aug. 22 to comply with the WTO ruling.

The request is likely to further escalate trade tensions between Beijing and Washington as President Donald Trump's administration considers whether to impose 25% tariffs on $200 billion of imports from China. A public comment period on the proposed levies ended Sept. 6.
