Boeing forms new internal safety body in wake of 737 MAX crashes

Boeing Co. announced a new product and services safety organization that would streamline safety-related duties of its businesses and operating units following two fatal crashes of its 737 MAX aircraft.

The new internal body will be responsible for reviewing product safety issues, including concerns anonymously raised by employees. It will be led by Beth Pasztor, Boeing vice president of product and services safety, who will also oversee the company's engineering and technical experts that were delegated by the Federal Aviation Administration for aircraft safety certification activities.

"Safety is at the core of who we are at Boeing, and the recent 737 MAX accidents will always weigh heavily on us," Boeing Chairman, President and CEO Dennis Muilenburg said in a press release.

Boeing also unveiled a "design requirements program" aimed at strengthening a "culture of continuous improvement, learning and innovation" within the company.

The Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 accidents in October 2018 and March 2019, respectively, triggered government investigations into Boeing earlier this year and led to a global grounding of its 737 MAX aircraft.
