McDonald's Holdings swings to profit in Q4

McDonald's Holdings Co. (Japan) Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fourth quarter came to ¥15.77 per share, compared with a loss of ¥12.98 per share in the year-earlier period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was ¥2.10 billion, compared with a loss of ¥1.73 billion in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin rose to 3.4% from negative 3.3% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue increased 18.2% year over year to ¥61.39 billion from ¥51.93 billion, and total operating expenses rose 6.1% from the prior-year period to ¥58.09 billion from ¥54.78 billion.

Reported net income totaled ¥2.16 billion, or ¥16.22 per share, compared to a loss of ¥5.67 billion, or a loss of ¥42.66 per share, in the year-earlier period.

For the year, the company's normalized net income totaled ¥33.27 per share, compared with a loss of ¥115.61 per share in the prior year.

Normalized net income was ¥4.42 billion, compared with a loss of ¥15.37 billion in the prior year.

Full-year total revenue rose 19.6% year over year to ¥226.65 billion from ¥189.47 billion, and total operating expenses increased year over year to ¥219.64 billion from ¥213.92 billion.

The company said reported net income totaled ¥5.37 billion, or ¥40.36 per share, in the full year, compared with a loss of ¥34.95 billion, or a loss of ¥262.87 per share, the prior year.
