Facebook's policy and communications head to step down

Facebook Inc.'s policy and communications has announced his intention to step down from his role.

According to a Facebook post, Elliot Schrage announced that he has decided to pursue a new chapter in his life after more than a decade at the company.

In the statement, Schrage said he will stay on at the social networking giant to help hire his replacement after which he will serve as an adviser to Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg.

He added that "leading policy and communications for hyper growth technology companies is a joy — but it's also intense and leaves little room for much else."

Schrage led the social media giant's responses during the recent scandal on the misuse of data by political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica LLC.

Prior to Facebook, he worked in a similar capacity at search giant Google Inc., according to a Recode report.

News of Schrage's departure comes shortly after a former Facebook product director, Daniel Danker, reportedly joined Uber Technologies Inc.
