TransAlta Renewables, Microsoft sign power contract for 90-MW Pa. wind farm

TransAlta Renewables Inc. and Microsoft Corp. signed a 15-year power purchase agreement for the output of the 90-MW Big Level wind project under construction in Hector Township, Pa.

According to an Oct. 15 company news release, the Big Level investment will boost Microsoft's total renewable energy portfolio to over 1.2 GW.

The Big Level facility is one of the construction-ready wind projects that TransAlta Renewables agreed to acquire in February. Along with a 29-MW project in New Hampshire, the wind projects are estimated to cost around $240 million, and are expected to reach commercial operation in the second half of 2019.
