Storage operators put a net 92 Bcf into natural gas inventories in the Lower 48 during the week to June 1, trailing the five-year-average injection of 104 Bcf, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported.
The build brought total working gas supply in the Lower 48 to 1,817 Bcf, or 799 Bcf below the year-ago level and 512 Bcf below the five-year average.
By region:
* In the East, stockpiles were up 23 Bcf on the week at 351 Bcf, 22% under the year-ago level.
* In the Midwest, stockpiles grew 26 Bcf at 341 Bcf, 44% below a year earlier.
* In the Mountain region, inventories rose 8 Bcf at 121 Bcf, 29% below the year-ago level.
* In the Pacific region, stockpiles were up 10 Bcf at 231 Bcf, nearly 14% below a year earlier.
* In the South Central region, stockpiles were up 25 Bcf at 773 Bcf, down 31% from a year earlier.
Of that total, 245 Bcf of gas was in salt cavern facilities and 528 Bcf was in non-salt cavern facilities. Working gas stocks rose 4% in salt cavern facilities from the previous week and rose 3% in non-salt cavern facilities.
