Daimler AG-owned Mercedes-Benz is offering a €3,000 subsidy to cover the cost of retrofitting older diesel cars with exhaust gas treatment systems in a bid to help drivers avoid inner-city bans, Reuters reported Aug. 6.
The German automaker launched a website this week to process financial support applications from customers, the report said.
The first retrofit kit for Mercedes-Benz vehicles with Euro 5 diesel engines was developed by Bavaria-based Dr. Pley SCR Technology and costs around €3,000 to buy and install, the news wire added.
According to the report, the move comes as German motor transport authority Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, or KBA, plans to authorize an after-market kit to improve exhaust systems on a range of Mercedes-Benz diesel passenger cars.
