Report: Qualcomm pursuing sales ban on latest iPhone models in China

Qualcomm Inc. is in the process of filing additional suits seeking to broaden a ban on the sale of Apple Inc. iPhones in China to newer device models, the Financial Times (London) reported Dec. 13.

Qualcomm now wants to ban sales of Apple's latest iPhone models: the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. The chipmaker recently won a preliminary injunction against the import and sale in China of older iPhone models, including iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X models.

A lawyer representing Qualcomm in its patent suits told the publication that the company now intends to file suit against the three new models.

Earlier this year, Qualcomm filed copyright infringement suits against Apple's Taiwan-based contract manufacturers and accused the U.S. tech giant of infringing on six of its patents.
