Bruce Hoffman, director of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Competition, will be leaving the agency in November after two years as head of the bureau, the FTC announced Oct. 11.
Hoffman oversaw the creation of a technology task force, announced in February, to monitor competition in U.S. technology markets, investigate possible anticompetitive conduct and take enforcement actions if necessary.
Facebook Inc. revealed in July that it was being investigated by the FTC for antitrust concerns, shortly after it agreed to pay a $5 billion fine to settle FTC-documented privacy violations.
The FTC also has interviewed some Amazon.com Inc. sellers as part of an investigation into the e-commerce giant's power over competition, Bloomberg News reported in September.
Ian Conner, the FTC competition bureau's deputy director, will succeed Hoffman.
