Report: France's Orange mulls video unit merger with Altice Studio

Orange SA is considering to merge its video unit Orange Cinema Series with SFR Group SA's Altice Studio, Reuters reported, citing French newspaper Le Figaro.

A deal between the two French companies will allow Orange to gain access to Altice Studio's rights to distribute content from Discovery Inc. and Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal Media LLC.

Meanwhile, Orange Cinema Series has an exclusive contract with Time Warner Inc.'s HBO.

In August 2017, Altice Studio laid out its plan to invest €40 million to produce its own content and has also launched on video-on-demand platform SFR Play.

SFR Group is a unit of Altice NV.
