The European Commission has proposed a €9.2 billion investment in digital projects as part of the first Digital Europe program.
The plan entails spending €2.7 billion in supercomputers, €2.5 billion on artificial intelligence, €2 billion on cybersecurity, €700 million for the advancement of digital skills, and €1.3 billion for the digital transformation of public services.
The commission expects that the new proposal would aid in aligning the next long-term EU budget from 2021 to 2027, which would be agreed on by 2019.
In addition, the EC has also submitted a request to increase the budget for the digital infrastructure projects, such as cross-border connections, under the Connecting Europe Facility, to €3 billion.
