ComEd launches $1.4B energy efficiency program

Commonwealth Edison Co. has introduced a $1.4 billion energy efficiency plan to help public sector and income-eligible customers manage their energy usage.

The new plan, under the state of Illinois' Future Energy Jobs Act, will span over four years to substantially expand and create new energy efficiency offerings. Through this initiative, residential, business and public sector customers will be able to save up to 11.8% of their total energy, or $7 billion, over the next four years, the utility said in a news release. The plan was approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission in 2017.

The program includes appliance rebates, instant lighting discounts, and discounts on weatherization and HVAC systems.

The Future Energy Jobs Act allocates another $50 million to research and development of emerging technology and outreach strategies that ComEd said will enable more people to participate in energy efficiency programs.

ComEd is a subsidiary of Exelon Corp.
