Walmart to kick off shorter holiday shopping season Oct. 25

Walmart Inc. announced that it will kick off holiday season early with an 'Early Deals Drop' online sale, starting Oct. 25 at midnight eastern time.

The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer said in an Oct. 23 release that its early sale ahead of the shorter Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping season will enable customers to get a "jumpstart" with deals across a range of items. 2019 will have six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas than in 2018.

Walmart U.S. Chief Merchandising Officer Steve Bratspies said, "Saving our customers time is also paramount at this time of year, especially with fewer days to get ready for big family meals, parties and gift giving."

Additionally, the company will offer free next-day delivery on "thousands of eligible items." Other expanded shopping features include a scannable toy catalog, a gift finder, an associate-led checkout service and an expanded DotCom store.

Beginning Nov. 2, Walmart will also launch in-store events that will continue throughout the holiday season.

In its upcoming holiday shopping sales, Walmart will be offering deals on electronics, gaming, toys, home and sporting goods, from an assortment of brands such as SwissTech, WoodWick, Hobby Kids Adventures, Hello Bello, Kindi Kids and Bobbi Brown, the company said.
