NY siting board approves RWE's 242-MW wind farm

The New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment approved RWE AG's proposed 242-MW Baron Winds Project in Steuben County, N.Y.

The facility will host up to 68 turbines, to be installed in the towns of Cohocton, Dansville, Fremont and Wayland. BELECTRIC GmbH, a subsidiary of Innogy SE, will supply construction and operating services for the project.

The project also includes 16.5 miles of access roads to access the turbine locations, associated electrical collection lines, 31 miles of underground collection lines, a collection substation and meteorological towers, according to Sept. 12 press release.

The facility will be interconnected to the electric grid through the existing 230-kV New York State Electric & Gas Corp.-owned Canandaigua switching station. The output of the project is secured under a contract with Amazon Web Services Inc.

RWE owns a 76.8% stake in Baron Winds Project, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data, while Innogy owns the remaining 23.2% interest. The project is expected to become operational by fall 2020.
