Gold Resource suspends ops for 48 hours after 2 recent deaths at Arista mine

Gold Resource Corp. on Jan. 30 said it suspended mining and milling operations for up to 48 hours at the Arista mine, part of its El Aguila gold operation in Mexico, following two recent fatal accidents.

The company said an employee was killed Jan. 29 at Arista in an accident involving the operation of heavy equipment inside the mine. Investigations by the company and authorities are underway.

In a recent unrelated fatality, a worker employed by a narrow-vein mine contractor at the mine was killed as a result of a ground-fall event. The company noted that an initial probe into the incident by the authorities concluded there was no wrongdoing by the company or the worker.

Gold Resource is reviewing and strengthening safety policies, procedures and protocols during the suspension.
