AT&T proposes new contracts to CWA for Midwest, Legacy T staffers

AT&T Inc. on May 22 proposed new contracts to the Communications Workers of America, covering roughly 13,100 wireline employees in the Midwest and Legacy T labor contracts.

The offers were presented by Illinois Bell Telephone Co., Indiana Bell Telephone Co. Inc., Michigan Bell Telephone Co., The Ohio Bell Telephone Co., Wisconsin Bell Inc., AT&T Services Inc., and DIRECTV LLC, among others, for Midwest; and AT&T Corp. and DIRECTV, LLC, among others, for Legacy T, according to a Form 8-K filed May 22.

The proposed contracts, if ratified by the represented employees, would include compounded annual wage increases totaling more than 11% over the term of each contract; the company would pay about 70% of the total cost of employees' healthcare; and qualified employees who currently have an employment security commitment would continue to receive a job offer with AT&T should they be declared surplus.

Also included are a pension plan and a 401(k) savings plan for all employees.

If accepted and ratified by the union, each proposed contract would expire on April 9, 2022.
