Consumer confidence in Japan edged higher in May after falling in April, data from the country's Cabinet Office showed.
The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index rose 0.2 points to 43.8 in May from 43.6 in April.
Consumers' perception on employment inched up 0.3 points from April to 48.2 while willingness to buy durable goods was up 0.3 points to 43.0.
The sub-index for overall livelihood climbed 0.6 points from April to 42.1 in May while perceptions regarding income growth slipped 0.3 points from the previous month to 42.0.
The percentage of consumers who expect prices to increase in the year ahead fell 0.2% points to 82.1% in May, while the percentage of those who expect prices to decrease rose 0.3% points to 3.2%. The percentage of those who expect prices to stay the same was 12.4% in May, up 0.5% points from the previous month.
