US hits Chinese ceramic tile imports with up to 222% preliminary duties

The U.S. Department of Commerce imposed preliminary duties of up to 222.24% on imports of ceramic tile from China as part of a countervailing duty investigation.

The department assigned tile imports from Temgoo International Trading Ltd. a preliminary subsidy rate of 222.24%, while those from Foshan Sanfi Imp & Exp Co. Ltd. and other Chinese importers were hit with duties of 103.77%. The countervailing duty investigation was petitioned by the Coalition for Fair Trade in Ceramic Tile, which include several tile companies across the U.S.

Commerce is scheduled to announce its final determination in the investigation Jan. 22, 2020. The U.S. International Trade Commission is set to make its own final injury determination on or around March 6, 2020.

Imports of ceramic tile from China were valued at about $483.1 million in 2018, the department said.
