North American Palladium Ltd. signed a letter of intent with Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek, also known as the Gull Bay First Nation, over the Lac des Iles palladium operations in Ontario, the company said June 6.
The letter outlines certain outstanding matters between the parties that will be further negotiated and defined in a more detailed participation agreement in the near future.
As a result, the Gull Bay members agreed to end their gathering at the primary access road to the mine.
About 50 members of the First Nation had been blocking the entrance road to Lac Des Iles since last week, seeking agreements on a number of outstanding issues the community had with the mine operations, CBC News reported June 5.
"The list [of concerns] is confidential," Gull Bay First Nation Chief Wilfred King told the news outlet.
The company said it used a secondary access to the site during this time, on mutual agreement, and there were no safety issues or any impact on mine production.
