Roku teams up with AOC to sell smart TVs in Brazil

Roku Inc. is set to sell smart TVs in Brazil under a licensing deal with TPV Technology Ltd.-owned electronics brand AOC.

The streaming software company will offer the AOC Roku TV in 32-inch HD and 43-inch models, which are worth 1,199 Brazilian reais and 1,599 reais, respectively. The AOC Roku TV models come with a remote control and mobile app access, as well as offer content search and automatic software updates.

The Roku TV models will be available starting Jan. 22 in online marketplaces Casas Bahia, Ponto Frio and Extra, and in stores in early February.

Roku customers in Brazil will get access to streaming platforms such as Netflix Inc. and Apple Inc.'s Apple TV. A shortcut button to Grupo Globo Media SA's streaming service Globoplay will also be added to the Roku TV remote control in the succeeding months.

Roku has been licensing its software to mainly low-cost TV manufacturers since 2014. The company recently partnered with China's Hisense to sell smart TVs in the U.K.

As of Jan. 20, US$1 was equivalent to 4.18 Brazilian reais.
