Florida-based transportation company CSX Corp. appointed James Schwichtenberg as vice president and chief safety officer.
Schwichtenberg has 20 years of railroad experience, including 15 years directly leading rail safety and regulatory initiatives. Most recently, he was director of regulatory and operating practices at Canadian National Railway Co.
In February, an Amtrak passenger train crashed into a parked CSX freight train on a siding along a stretch of track in South Carolina owned and operated by CSX. Two people were killed and more than 100 were injured in the accident.
