Kroger, Ocado pick central Florida as 2nd site for automated warehouse network

U.S. supermarket chain Kroger Co. and U.K. online grocer Ocado Group PLC earmarked a site in Groveland, Lake County, Fla., for their second automated fulfillment center in the U.S.

The planned 375,000-square-foot facility in central Florida is expected to create more than 400 jobs in the local area, according to a March 19 release.

Kroger did not disclose the size of its investment in the facility, which is scheduled to be operational in 2021.

The announcement came a month after the Cincinnati-based grocer said it has chosen central Florida and mid-Atlantic regions as the locations of its next two automated fulfillment centers.

In November 2018, Kroger announced that it will build the first of its automated fulfillment center network in Cincinnati.

Kroger and Ocado plan to open 20 customer fulfillment centers in the U.S. under a deal announced in May 2018.
